Mustang JV rolls over Cubs

HUMBOLDT — Iola High’s junior varsity baseball team notched two more victories Thursday against host Humboldt High’s Cubs.
The Mustangs used a 12-hit attack to win 10-3 in the first game. They scored four runs in the third and six more in the fourth. Humboldt scored its three runs in the fourth.
Shelton Reno was the winning pitcher for Iola. Trent Latta pitched the final inning of the five- frame game. Austin Beeman took the loss for the Cubs.
Reno led the Iola offense with three base hits. Tyler Clubine had a single and a double while Derrick Weir and Tyler Tomlinson had two singles each.
Eric Heffern doubled. Latta and Trey Wilson each hit a single.
For Humboldt, Ryan Huse cranked out two doubles and Chance Menzie had two singles. Hitting a single each were Ryan Gean, Cole Morrison and Tim Vaughn.
Clubine threw a one-hitter for the Mustangs in the second game, a 15-1 run-rule game that ended after three innings. Morrison was the losing pitcher.
Iola was up 8-1 after two innings. The Mustangs plated seven runs in the third.
Weir connected for a home run and single for Iola. Shae Beasley had two singles. Heffern and John Whitworth each had a double.
Hitting a single apiece were Tomlinson, Clubine and Reno.
The only hit for Humboldt was a single by Jayce Schomaker.
