UNIONTOWN — Marmaton Valley’s baseball team notched its first win of the season, splitting games at Uniontown on Monday.
In game one, the team overcame a 17-10 deficit in the seventh inning.
“We did a good job in the top of the seventh of getting people on base and driving them in,” coach Derek Scharff said. “We scored 10 runs to take a three-run lead going into the bottom of the seventh.”
Justice Pugh finished the game off with a 1-2-3 inning.
Gage Adams led the team with his bat, hitting two singles, a double and getting five RBIs. Jake Kress and Pugh each had three singles and an RBI. Keagan Boyd didn’t get a hit, but had two RBIs. Shaun Frye had a single and RBI. Brock Hall had four singles and three RBIs. Trevor Wilson had a single and double. Jake Kale had a single, double and two RBIs.
The Wildcats were shutout 10-0 in game two.
“I would have thought after a win like that our guys would have come out pumped up and ready to play the second game, but it was quite the opposite,” Scharff said. “We came out flat and were never in the game.”
Kress, Beggs and Hall each had a single.
Adams pitched four innings, walking four and striking out three. He gave up 10 runs (eight earned).
“We never got anything going at the plate. We had a few base runners but couldn’t drive them in,” Scharff said. “Our guys need to get hungry and want to win more. We seemed satisfied with the first victory.”
Marmaton Valley (1-5) plays Thursday at St. Paul.
