MORAN — Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats were down 1-0 coming to bat in the third inning when the rain halted play last Thursday.
St. Paul’s Indians re-turned to Moran Wednesday and the teams resumed play. The Wildcats rallied to win both games to go 5-7.
Still down 1-0, the Wildcats scored seven runs in the fifth inning to gain the lead. They added two more runs in the sixth and won 9-3.
“The girls played team ball. Shelby Norman pitch-ed very well and our fielders did their jobs,” said Brenda Mills, MVHS head coach.
Norman gave up one hit, walked one and struck out 10. She also had two singles.
Michelle Heskett delivered two doubles and a single. Kacie Shadden had a single and a home run and Alysha Westhoff tripled. Kailey Boyd doubled. Hitting a single each were Jamee McEndree, Kayla McNutt, Cheyanne Miller and Tabitha Ford.
After seven innings in the second game, the teams were locked in a 4-4 tie. St. Paul scored twice in the top of the eighth.
With two gone, the Wildcats rallied. McEndree and Miller had back-to-back singles and Maggie Meiwes tripled. Westhoff connected for a hit to drive in the winning run.
Norman picked up the pitching win, giving up three hits and striking out four.
McEndree had a double and two singles. Meiwes and Westhoff each had a single and a triple. Norman and Shadden had two singles each. Miller had a single.
Marmaton Valley goes to Jayhawk-Linn today.
