PITTSBURG — The Iola Mustangs wrapped up the regular season with an 11-2 loss to second-ranked 2A Colgan while on the road Monday.

Scoring four runs in the first and second innings, and three in the third, the Colgan Panthers put the Mustangs out of contention early for a fifth-inning mercy-rule — snapping Iola’s three-game win streak.

Iola went scoreless until the fifth inning, when senior second baseman Nick Bauer plated a pair of runners with an RBI single. Bauer finished the day as Iola’s leader in RBIs. Bauer and junior outfielders Ruger Boren, Brock Michael and senior shortstop Tre Wilson each had one hit.

Senior starting pitcher Jakolby Hill took the loss after allowing five runs on one hit and six walks. Senior reliever Easton Weseloh pitched the second inning, allowing three runs on two walks. Boren pitched the third and fourth, allowing three runs on six hits.

With the loss, the Mustangs finish the regular season 14-7 overall.

They enter the regional tournament as the fourth seed and host the Columbus Titans Wednesday at Alumni Park. First pitch is at 5 p.m.
