Pony golfers continue their winning ways

INDEPENDENCE — Three for three.
Iola Middle School’s golf team made it three for three this season Wednesday in winning the Independence Middle School golf tournament. The Ponies put together a team winning 162 total.
Independence was a distant second at 173. Columbus took third at 180.
Four golfers shot a 39 for the nine-hole tournament — two were from Iola.
Logan Taylor, Independence,  was awarded first place followed by Iola’s Isaiah Grover. Anderson County’s Spencer Walter was third and Iola’s Adam Peterson took fourth.
Kaden Macha, Iola, took the fifth-place medal with a 40. Shane Walden shot a 44 for ninth place.
Iola travels to Mound City Monday to play in the Jayhawk-Linn Junior High Invitational. The tournament will be at Sugar Valley Golf Course.
