Jenna Curry’s lay-up with just 45 seconds left in Tuesday’s game with Prairie View gave her a double-double, but more importantly it sealed the seventh-grade varsity Ponies’ 25-18 home victory over their league rivals.
Curry had been battling foul trouble and Iola coach Anthony Herrick had her on the bench as time ticked away to try and avoid having her foul out, but with under a minute left, Ponies’ point guard Josie Plumlee picked up her fifth foul and Herrick had to make a move. He chose to go big and inserted Curry into the game. The decision paid off handsomely.
Curry finished the game with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
Curry’s classmate Reece Murry just missed out on her own double-double as she finished with nine points and 11 rebounds.
Plumlee had six points including two clutch free throws late in the game.
