From her first two buckets, which kept the Ponies’ varsity eighth-grade squad tied with Osawatomie early, until she fouled out with just 25 seconds left, Josie Plumlee was a thorn in the Trojans’ side while Iola cruised to a 14-8 victory on Tuesday in Iola.
Plumlee led the Ponies with eight points and eight steals.
“Josie made some nice layups,” Iola coach Anthony Herrick said. “We have been working on that in practice, because if she can do that she can have about 30 or 40 points a game, because she is so quick. She will be something to be reckoned with next year.”
Plumlee’s steal and lay-up tied the game at 4-4 early in the second quarter and Chloe Sell’s basket after a wrap-around pass from Reece Murry gave the team a 6-4 advantage.
Murry answered, after the Trojans tied the game, with a basket to end the first half and give the Ponies an 8-6 lead at the intermission.
