The Allen County men and women basketball teams came up short over the weekend at Pratt with the women falling 74-62 and the men 92-67.
For the women, the loss drops them to 4-13 and 2-11 in conference play. The men fall to 6-11 and 4-9.
The Lady Devils fell behind early, trailing 22-8 after the first quarter. That first quarter would be key as Allen outscored the Beavers for the final three quarters but not enough to overcome the early 14-point deficit.
They had their opportunities down the stretch to get the win but eight missed free throws ended up making the difference.
Sophomore guard Kamri Summons had 19 points with freshman guard Jakira Wilson following behind with 10.
The Allen men also fell behind early but while the Lady Devils stormed back to make it close, the Red Devils were outscored in both halves.
Pratt shot 47.3 percent in the entire game while the men only shot 36.8 percent. The Beavers only shot six more shots than Allen County. The Red Devils were also outrebounded by 21.
Freshman guard and Humboldt High School grad Rayce Hoepker had a breakout game scoring 18 points including five threes.
The Red Devils stay on the road for their next game when they start the conference schedule over again versus Coffeyville. Both teams lost to the Red Ravens when they came to Iola. The men lost 81-67 and the women lost 68-64. The Coffeyville men are receiving votes in the most recent NJCAA poll.
