Baileigh Rager took care of Allen Community College’s primary rival Wednesday afternoon with one of her top pitching performances of the season in Allen’s 8-0 win over Neosho County Community College.
Rager started the first game of the doubleheader and threw all six innings.
She shut down the Panther offense by allowing only three hits and one walk, while striking out four.
Rager provided herself with all the run support she needed when she turned a 1-0 lead into a 4-0 cushion with a three-run home run in the sixth inning.
After Rager’s deep shot, the Red Devil offense was sparked and they scored three more times in the inning to make the final score 8-0 after six innings.
Allen’s first run came on another home run from the middle of the Red Devil batting order when third baseman Morgan Wayman’s blast led off the fourth
Alana Renshaw and Breanna Dinkel led the Allen offense with two hits each. Dinkel and catcher Emmy McManigal each had doubles as well.
The win improves the Red Devil record to 21-12 on the season.
The second game of the day was stopped in the eighth inning due to rain with the score knotted at 2-2.
The Panthers jumped on Red Devil pitcher Regan Beckley in the second inning, scoring both of their runs.
Neosho nine-hitter Kaitlyn Halaquist’s single plated both runs in the inning and Allen had to play from behind for the first time all afternoon.
In the fifth inning, Allen began to claw back into the game. A Marissa Lilly single to score McManigal cut the margin to just a single run.
In the sixth, Rager completely erased the deficit with her seventh home run of the year and her second of the day.
In the top of the eighth inning with two Neosho batters out, the game was postponed due to the rainy conditions.
This was a situation that both teams thought might be a possibility going into the day as they originally moved the games up to Tuesday afternoon from Wednesday, but after one of the umpires fell ill on Tuesday as the game was just getting underway the games were pushed back to their originally scheduled Wednesday time.
According to Red Devil coach Jaime Jensen both coaches will meet at some point today and attempt to reschedule the conclusion of the second game.
