The Allen Community College women’s basketball team will be short-handed today as they travel to Butler Community College for playoff action.

Ashley Washington, Josie Reilly, DaMonica Franklin and Ariyah Sorrells have all been suspended for the contest after an altercation against Neosho Community College on Monday.

That only mounts more pressure on sophomore guard Haley Wilson as her shooting has been the primary source of scoring for Allen in recent weeks.

Now Wilson must be relied on to carry more of the ball-handling responsibility. Without Washington, Franklin and Reilly, the Red Devils are without three of their most relied upon players to bring the ball up the court.

Ashley Sally and McKena Arlt will also likely get starts against Butler and have to take some of the scoring and ball-handling pressure off of Wilson.

In the post, Zasha Taylor and Rachel Bruce are the projected starters. Taylor has been a regular starter for Todd Buchanan’s squad but Bruce will see a major minutes increase in the game.

Former Iola High standout Addie Haar will also see plenty of time as the Red Devils will only have six players available.

THE RED DEVIL men will try to avenge an overtime loss in their last meeting at Colby Community College.

They fell 94-84 in that January match up. Jermaine Long carried the Red Devils with 29 points in that game, but the sophomore figures to have more help in this first round game.

Darnell Jones-Bowie and DaRon Mims are each are coming off big nights in Monday’s 74-69 win over Neosho Community College.

Jones-Bowie had 22 points, while Mims led the team with 23 points.

Allen coach Andy Shaw hopes he can get all three of his guards playing well against Colby. If he can the Red Devils should have a great opportunity to continue their season with a revenge win.

The game tips off at 7 p.m.
