PRATT — As far as losses go, Tuesday’s defeat “was tough to stomach,” Allen Community College women’s coach Mark James said.
The Red Devils were a beyond-frigid 2 of 20 from 3-point range, while shooting 26 percent from the floor and missing 16 free throws.
That they lost Tuesday evening by only three points to host Pratt Community College, 57-54, makes the loss even more frustrating, James said in an email.
“It was a frustrating night for the players and coaching staff alike,” James said. “Any time you leave an arena with a loss when there is not any doubt in your mind you were the better team, it’s difficult.”
Despite the team’s dismal offensive showing, Allen’s defense kept the Red Devils within shouting distance throughout the contest, James said.
Allen missed on a pair of possessions in the game’s waning seconds, when the Red Devils had an opportunity to either tie or take the lead, James said.
Pratt led 26-17 at the break.
Allen was led by DaNara Day with 17 points, followed by Miracle Davis with 10 points, seven rebounds, four assists and three steals. Hannah Blackwell pulled in eight rebounds with four steals. Ebonie Jones also had four steals.
The Red Devils (2-2) have little time to mope. They travel to the Dodge City Classic Friday and Saturday to take on two more Jayhawk Western Conference foes. Allen takes on host Dodge City at 6 p.m. Friday and Garden City at 2 p.m. Saturday.
The Red Devil men also fell Tuesday, dropping a 73-64 loss. The men (2-4) will play their long-awaited home opener Saturday against Hutchinson. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
