After a long, strange season filled with ups and downs, the Allen County cross country program is headed to do what they do best, win championships.
On Saturday, all Region VI/KJCCC teams will gather in Wakefield for the conference championship race.
The Red Devil men head in looking for their fourth straight region title and seventh straight conference title while the women have their eyes on their first-ever regional title and their third conference title.
Both teams are riding high, ranked sixth in the country.
The girls will be looking for runners like Karen Perez, Betty Ramos and Laina Kanuho to step up while the men will lean on their battle-tested core of Joshua Doria, Joshua Clethen and Yoel Yoel to bring more hardware back to Iola.
The competition will be tight with teams such as Cloud County, which is ranked fifth, No. 7 Colby and No. 8 Hutchinson all sitting around the Red Devils. Highland is also ranked 21st.
The women have fourth-place Cowley to contend with along with seventh-place Hutchinson and 14th- place Highland.
The meet, hosted by Cowley Community College, will begin at 11 a.m. with the women?s race followed by the men?s race at noon.
