NEVADA, Mo. — Allen County Community College got back-to-back stellar pitching performances in two shutout victories Thursday.
Lenzie Boring and Alex Hill each limited host Cottey College’s Comets to one hit in each game. Offensively, the Red Devils pounded out double-digit hit totals in each contest.
Allen County made the trip to Nevada, Mo., quick with wins of 13-0 and 10-0. Both were five-inning run-rule victories.
Boring pitched the first game. The sophomore gave up a single to the Comets in the first inning and walked one batter in the second but nothing else.
By recording 11 strikeouts Thursday, Boring reached a season total of 216 strikeouts. She set an ACCC freshman pitching record of strikeouts last year with 235.
Behind Boring, the Red Devil defense had two errors. At the plate, the Red Devils connected for 12 hits with Boring cranking out a double and a triple to drive in three runs.
Jori Graf, Jenna Sigg and Callie Umholtz each had two singles. Kelsey Walters and Kelci Owens had a double each. Erin Schwant singled.
Allen County scored three runs in the first and was up 6-0 after four innings. The Red Devils manufactured seven runs in the fifth inning.
Hill  threw three hitless innings before surrendering a single to the Comets in the fourth. That was the only baserunner Cottey had in the game and she was out when she didn’t tag up on a fly ball.
Hill struck out five to take her season total to 85.
The Red Devils opened with three runs in the first and one in the second. They had a five-run fourth highlighted by a two-run home run by Kylie Taylor. Allen County added a run in the fifth.
Schwant was 3-for-4 with a triple and two singles. Boring and Owens each had two base hits. Hill doubled. Sigg, Umholtz, Tesla Allison and Ashley Ribelin each had a single. Allen County had six stolen bases in the game.
Allen County improved to 32-14 overall. The Red Devils were to have played at Independence Community College today but games have been moved to Monday.
