Before the change in the weather Friday, Allen County Community College’s Red Devils were not very good hosts to Hutchinson Community College’s Blue Dragons.
The Red Devils sent the Blue Dragons home with two losses in Jayhawk Eastern Division play. Winning 2-0 and 9-2, put the Red Devils at 7-1 in conference play and they stand atop the division. They are 13-11 overall.
Lenzie Boring had a three-hit shutout in the opening game. She struck out seven batters.
Autumn Lamle doubled twice for ACCC. The first time came in the fourth and Kassie Summers went in as a courtesy runner. Summers scored the first run of the game on a sacrifice fly by Shawna Blakesley.
With one out in the sixth, Jenna Sigg singled and scored on Lamle’s double. With a 2-0 lead, the Red Devils retired the Blue Dragons in order in the seventh to record the win.
In the second game, Amy Carr beat out an infield single then Amy McAfee got the bunt up and over a pulled in Hutchinson infield for a single. That started a four-run first inning for the Devils.
Allen County led 4-2 after three innings. The Red Devils added a run in the fourth then two more in each of the next two innings.
Brianne Campbell was the winning pitcher for ACCC. She allowed seven hits and struck out four. Allen County had two errors which helped the Dragons scored twice in the third inning.
Sigg was 3-for-4 in the game with three singles. Kylie Taylor had a single and a double. Hitting two singles each were Kristina Popejoy and Callie Umholtz.
Carr, McAfee, Lamle, Blakesley and Kelci Owens each had a single.
With the winter weather conditions, Allen County’s Saturday home doubleheader with Hesston was postponed.
Allen County is scheduled to host Kansas City, Kan., Community College Tuesday.
