HESSTON — Responding to several adverse situations during matches, Allen County Community College’s Red Devils came out third in the eight-team Hesston College Tournament over the weekend.
The Red Devils posted a 3-1 mark, losing only to Brookhaven out of Texas, 26-24, 25-14, 25-17.
On Friday, Allen County defeated Labette 25-13, 25-11, 25-9 led by Nicole Rockhold with 17 kills. The Red Devils downed Southeast out of Nebraska 25-20, 25-23, 25-23.
The Brookhaven loss came Saturday morning. It put Allen County second in its pool.
The Red Devils faced Iowa Central and it was 1-1 after two sets. Allen County took the next two, winning 24-22, 14-25, 25-15, 25-20.
Rockhold finished with 52 kills, two solo blocks and 42 digs. She was named to the all-tournament team.
Allison Jenicke delivered 28 kills for the tournament and had two solo blocks and two assisted blocks. Andrea Miller downed 21 kills, put up six solo blocks and had two assisted blocks.
Karlee Bobbitt was credited with 57 set assists and Erika Mack had 46. Serving three aces each were Bobbitt, Morgan Scott, Rockhold and Miller.
Jenicke led the team with 50 digs. Scott had 33 digs while Nicole Reed and Mack had 24 apiece.
Allen County (9-11) hosts Independence on Wednesday in Jayhawk Eastern Division play.
