WINFIELD — It may be only three games into the 2023 campaign, but Allen Community College’s defense already is in midseason form.
The Red Devils steamrolled a pair of overmatched squads Friday and Saturday at the Cowley Classic.
First up was an 84-34 whitewash of Haskell Junior Varsity on Friday.
Allen was nearly as dominant a day later with a 76-27 romp over Kansas Wesleyan University.
The Red Devils get three more home games over the weekend, on Friday, Saturday and Monday before a lengthy road trip wraps up the pre-conference schedule. After the Nov. 13 home game against Bethany College, Allen won’t play another game in the cozy confines of the ACC gymnasium until Jan. 6 against Crowder.
On Friday, Allen blitzed Haskell 28-5 out of the gates and never looked back. The game stood at 45-12 at the break. Haskell stayed even in the third period before Allen turned on the jets once again, with a 24-6 fourth quarter.
Noah Muranaka led the way with 19 points, including 7 of 7 from the line to lead the way. Mafalda Chamber added 15 points and four assists, and Kelsi Lantz 11 points. Khassidy Warr notched nine points. Sarang West added nine points and a team-high five rebounds.
The Red Devils, who shot 9 of 19 from 3-point range, also racked up 22 steals. West and Chamber led with five thefts apiece. Khassidy Warr had four steals.
ALLEN MADE certain there would be no letup in Saturday’s tilt. The Red Devils led 22-7 after one quarter, 41-20 at the break, and then really clamped down after intermission. They grew the lead to 30 points after three quarters and ended the game on a 19-0 run.
West and Khassidy Warr led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points apiece. Jania Jones added eight points and 10 rebounds. Muranaka and Lantz scored 11 points apiece. West and Chamber were the key distributors. Each had four assists.
