YATES CENTER — Yates Center High’s Wildcat girls rolled to a 10-0 win over Altoona-Midway High’s Jets Monday in a Class 2-1A regional softball game.
Kassy Reynolds powered the Wildcat offense with four hits. She had a double and a home run plus two singles.
Yates Center scored three runs each in the first, third and fourth innings and had one run in the sixth.
“It was a great confidence building game for us going into the rest of our regional,” said Kathe Hamman, Yates Center head coach.
Hamman said Reynolds also had a great night behind the plate catching for the Cats. She snared three foul balls for outs — two were diving catches.
“One of the catches led to a double play for us in the sixth They had two base runners and wer threatening to score. Kassy made the catch, threw it back to Paryean Estes, who threw to second to double off the runner,” Hamman said.
Estes was the winning pitcher. She allowed one hit, walked two and struck out nine.
Maggie German had three singles, as did Jessie Hartwig. Autumn Douglas and Shannon Staats each had two base hits.
Estest and Sierra Lenard had a single apiece.
Yates Center is hosting the Kansas Class 2-1A Softgball Regional. Semifinals and the championship game were postponed today because of rain.
