GUTHRIE, Okla. Karlee Boots, 11, Welda, teamed up with Rydan White, 12, Red-field, to take home the Reserve World Champion title in junior ribbon roping at the 2018 National Little Britches Final Rodeo at the Lazy E. Arena in Guthrie, Okla.
The six-day rodeo concluded Sunday.
Boots is the daughter of Karla Boots and granddaughter of Pat Spencer.
In addition to the world reserve title buckle, Boots and White brought home a fourth-place first go round buckle, a set of trophy spurts for placing fifth in Shortys short round, and a reserve all-around finals average buckle.
Each received a $700 scholarship for college.
The ribbon roping competition featured 94 teams.
In this event, the roper ropes a calf and then dallies, or wraps, the rope around the saddle horn. The runner then grabs a ribbon tied to the tail of the calf and runs to the finish line. White serves as the roper; Boots the runner.
The duo are members of the Southeast Kansas Little Britches Rodeo Association, which produces local rodeos that serve as qualifiers throughout the season. Contestants must place in the top seven of five rodeos to qualify for the finals.
White also qualified in the junior boys breakaway roping, goats, flag race and team roping as a heeler. Boots qualified in junior girls barrels, poles and goat tying.
The junior age division is for competitors ages 9-13.
Kamryn Luedke, Colony, qualified in junior girls poles, barrels and goats.
Chloe White of Redfield also competed in junior girls trail, barrels and team roping as the heeler.
