Two weekends ago, the SEK Cadets claimed the 13U 2019 State Championship after picking up a perfect 6-0 record in the process.
In order to claim the state title, the Cadets toppled the Emporia Jr. Spartans 13U. The Spartans are ranked first in the state and fourth in the nation.
The Cadets started pool play with a 19-9 victory against Overland Park, and let that momentum carry them forward. They followed with a 6-2 win over the Martinez sluggers. Payton Houk and Colton Mayhew led the way with two hits each to propel the Cadet bats.
SEK only got stronger the rest of the way. Against Bandits Baseball, the Cadet offense exploded for 16 runs to carry them to the 16-3 win. SEK picked up 10 of its 16 runs in the third inning with Caden Vink, Ryan Allen, Gage Scheibmeir, Isaac McCullough, and Trey Clark leading the way, each picking up an RBI in the inning.
In the quarterfinals, SEKs defense was lockdown. The Cadets failed to commit a single error, allowing only two runs in the 9-2 victory. Noah Glue and McCullough led the offense picking up two hits apiece, and Addison Smith was aggressive on the base paths, swiping four bags.
Despite falling behind early against one of the countrys finest teams in Emporia, SEK rallied the rest of the way. The Cadets took the lead and were carried by the momentum of Zeke Browns solo home run in the third inning.
SEK ended up winning 8-4.
The Cadets owned the base paths en route to a 13-5 run-rule victory over Blue Valley in the championship game. Scheibmeir led the way with six stolen bags, and Smith along with McCullough led the offense picking up two hits each.
Next up for the Cadets is the Hawaiian Hitfest tournament on Friday and Saturday in Kansas City. The Cadets will be in the area selling enchiladas to fundraise.
