CHERRYVALE — Even down some key members, Yates Center High’s track teams still hauled in plenty of hardware Monday at a makeup track meet.
The Wildcat boys took third place despite entering without the services of Austin McNett and Brett Holloway.
The girls, meanwhile, took fourth while participating without Mindi Holloway or Paige Steinforth.
“We scored very well for both squads,” Yates Center coach Dan Berg said.
Leading the way for the Wildcat girls were Ashley Pringle, who nabbed first place in the 200- and 400-meter dashes and second in the 100-meter dash, while Katelyn Hatch corralled two gold medals, coming in both of her hurdle races.
“And Makayla Bishop and MaKayla Jones scored well in their respective events,” Berg said. “We didn’t get to run our relays, which took out some fun of the meet.”
Ceaton Cooper earned gold in the 400, while Drake Busteed took home the top spot in the 1600-meter run, both doing so with personal-best times.
“Tyler Keenan ran strong races in the hurdles and the 100,” Berg said. “Bryce Leon gave a strong performance in the 200 and Jason Wendland made his first 200 final of the year.”
A bad handoff hampered the boys’ 4×100-meter relay squad, but the 4×400 relay team won in come-from-behind fashion.
The Wildcats have little time to reflect on their success. They will be in Eureka Thursday for the Tri-Valley League Meet.
