PITTSBURG — The American Legion Post 15 Junior Indians will look for a turnaround at this weekend’s tournament in Chanute after falling Wednesday in a pair of shutouts to the Pittsburg Post 64 Silverbacks, 10-0 and 7-0.

In the opener, the Indians were held to a single hit by Iola first baseman Austin Campbell. The Silverbacks mercy-ruled the Indians in six innings.

Starting pitcher Cade Curry took the loss with a pair of strikeouts while allowing two runs on three hits and two walks. Humboldt reliever Tate Thomas had three strikeouts but allowed seven runs on four hits and five walks. Errors also played a factor. Half of Pittsburg’s production came from unearned runs.

Campbell took the loss in the nightcap. He tallied three strikeouts while handling starting duties but allowed four runs on two hits and two walks. Iola reliever Kaiden Jones did not fare much better with a strikeout over two innings while allowing three runs on three hits and four walks.

Though the Indians tripled their hit production, they were unable to string enough together to get them a run. Campbell, Thomas and Colony second baseman Andrew Donovan registered hits.

With the loss, the Junior Indians’ record fell to 4-5-1. They hope to get back on the right side of the win column at this weekend’s tournament in Chanute with contests lined up against the Kansas Outlaws 16U and the Larned Indians 16U. First pitch against the Outlaws is at 11 a.m. with a 3 p.m. first pitch scheduled for the Larned Indians.
