COLONY — One big inning sank the Crest Lancers season after falling 15-5 to the Remington Broncos in the opening round of the regional tournament.

Down a run and heading into their penultimate at-bat, the Broncos took the lead on a trio of consecutive RBI doubles, then held the Lancers scoreless from there to advance while Crest made an earlier than expected exit.

Senior starter Drake Weir tied senior reliever Jensen Barker for the team lead in strikeouts with three each, but Jensen took the loss after allowing ten runs on eight hits and four walks over three innings. Weir was not flawless either as he allowed three runs on three hits and a pair of walks.

Trailing by a run in the opening frame, freshman third baseman Andrew Donovan evened the score with an RBI grounder, then Weir gave the Lancers the lead in the second with a two-RBI single. Another Weir two-RBI single in the third put the Lancers up 5-3, but that was as close to victory as Crest would get after the Broncos scored 12 unanswered runs.

Weir ended his final game with the Lancers as Crest’s leader in hits and RBIs, successful in 3 of 4 at-bats with four RBIs. Donovan had one RBI while tying junior outfielder Lane Yocham and senior shortstop Henry While for second in hits with one each.

With the loss, Crest ends with a 13-12 record. After graduating five seniors last week, the Lancers will have significant holes to fill next season.
