The snow days of the past two weeks have made area high schools pack makeup basketball games into a very tight window for the next two weeks. All teams are attempting to get games in before the cut-off date of Feb. 23 for postseason tournament seeding purposes.
Iola High’s Fillies and Mustangs are in the best shape. Iola only had to reschedule one Southeast Kansas League doubleheader — with Chanute on Feb. 21 — because the IHS teams were not scheduled to play games this past Tuesday. Iola and Parsons went to school last Friday and played those games.
The Fillies and Mustangs host Fort Scott High’s Tiger teams tonight in SEK action. The teams met in the middle of January with Fort Scott winning both varsity games.
There will be no freshman girls’ game tonight or at Columbus on Tuesday. Fort Scott and Columbus don’t have enough freshman girls to field teams for those games.
Marmaton Valley High’s teams played Thursday night and play tonight. Then the Wildcats are on the road for three sets of games next week. Plus they will play back-to-back Feb. 21 and Feb. 22 at home. They have one more doubleheader — with Northeast — to either reschedule or not.
Yates Center High’s teams played Thursday and travel to Humboldt tonight. They were able to get in last Friday’s games leaving just one more doubleheader to reschedule, which is set for next Thursday at Eureka.
Humboldt High’s Cub teams also got in last Friday’s games. They play tonight, Monday, Tuesday and next Friday. The doubleheader with Caney Valley hasn’t been rescheduled yet.
Crest High’s squads play tonight then Tuesday, Thursday, next Friday and the following Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Uniontown High’s teams are on a regular Friday, Tuesday, Friday schedule for the next three games then play Feb. 21, Feb. 22 and Feb. 24.
Southern Coffey County High’s Titan teams only had to reschedule one doubleheader from the past two weeks. They play tonight, Tuesday, Thursday and next Friday then the following Monday.
So if you want to get out after being shut up in the house because of the snow. The next two weeks have plenty of basketball to watch in the area.
