Saturday tennis lessons are being offered this summer at the tennis courts in Colborn Park, northeast of Iola High School.
Holly Slawkowski, who is new to Iola, is the instructor offering the lessons through the Iola Recreation Department.
Slawkowski taught lessons for four years and comes from Champaign, Ill. She coached high school tennis and worked numerous tennis camps.
“I’ve given private and group lessons to all ages,” Slawkowski told the Register. The six-week course runs on Saturdays from July 10 to Aug. 14.
Classes for all levels, including beginners, are available. Registration fee is $20, payable to the Iola Recreation Department. Call the recreation office at 365-4990 to register.
There are three age level sessions each Saturday — 9-10 a.m. for adults, 10-11 a.m. for children 7-10 and 11 a.m-noon for ages 11-13.
The course covers the basics of tennis — forehands, backhands, volleys, overheads and serves — with a combination of drills and games.
Participants must supply their own racquet. There are a limited number of racquets available to borrow. Call her at 620-719-6774 or e-mail [email protected] for more information or to reserve a racquet.
