The first of (hopefully) many

I don’t want to take up too much of your time. After all, introductions often are tedious and easily forgettable.
I often need one or two extra tries to permanently match names and faces.
But I wanted to let you know how excited I am to be taking over the sports section of the Iola Register.
Over the past week, I had the privilege to shadow my predecessor Jon Dykstra and see firsthand how vibrant of a community Iola and the surrounding area is.
Another thing I picked up is how great it is to follow someone like Jon in a job like this. It was obvious that he was incredibly well liked and put everything into every paper that he worked on.
To be honest, it’s a tough act to follow. But, I’d rather it be that way. I’d rather try clearing the high bar that Jon has left and possibly fail a couple of times than slump my way through low expectations.
To avoid continuing to write something that sounds like a euology for Jon, I’ll tell you a few things about me:
— I was born in Wichita but call Manhattan home (yes, that does mean that I’m an  unapologetic K-State fan, born and bred.)  — I love to read but never seem to have the time to do it.  — I love sports but more importantly the athletes and their stories.
It’s an honor and privilage to get the chance to tell those stories here in Iola. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoy writing them.
