Titan girls notch narrow win

LE ROY — The Southern Coffey County girls’ basketball team moved above .500 at 3-2 with a 28-27 win over Marais des Cygnes Valley on Tuesday night in Le Roy.
The Titans had defeated the Trojans by 11 points last week in the Wildcat Classic in Yates Center, but on Tuesday a poor shooting night set the stage for a lower-scoring game.
Southern Coffey County shot only  20 percent from the field as a team.
Titan star junior guard Erikah Lyons struggled by shooting 1-for-12 and finishing with seven points. Lyons found other ways to contribute by grabbing 10 rebounds and five steals.
The team’s other top scorer Danielle Kasprzak led the team with 10 points on 4-of-17 shooting. Kasprzak also had eight rebounds.
Kaitlyn Meats joined Lyons and Kasprzak as a productive rebounder and grabbed eight boards. Meats also scored four points.
Carolyn Vanderman scored five points and four rebounds.
Kimberlyn Gunlock rounded out the scoring with two points.
The Titans entered the fourth quarter trailing 17-15, but rallied by out-scoring the Trojans 13-10 in the final period.

BOYS
The Southern Coffey County boys’ team beat Marais des Cygnes Valley 61-22.

UP NEXT
The Titans travel to Waverly on Friday.
