Led by a huge game from junior Reed Szambecki, the Southern Coffey County girls got a road win at  Burlingame on Friday while the Titan boys underwhelmed in a loss.

The SCC girls won 43-27 and improved to 4-2 while the boys lost 54-24 to fall to 4-2.

Szambecki scored 27 points  in the night’s win.

SCC trailed after the first quarter and into halftime but after a 7-5 third quarter cut the Lady Bearcats’ lead to just two, a 17-9 fourth quarter for the Lady Titans gave them the win.

Junior Bryli Copeland had six points, senior Crystal Alumbaugh had five, senior Haven Harvey scored three and sophomore Emersyn Hall had two.

THE TITAN boys trailed by nine after the first quarter in their 54-24 loss and 11 at halftime. That grew to 18 by the end of the third quarter and by 30 by the final buzzer.

“We were completely outplayed in all areas,” Southern Coffey County boys head coach Jay Applegate said. “Our seniors need to have a real gut check and need to want to play each possession. Their work ethic was not evident last night.”

Seniors Dawson Leimkuhler and Kolgan Ohl each had eight, senior Jett Harvey had five, junior Jonathan Borntreger had two and freshman Noah Borntreger had a point.

The Titans will host Olpe on Tuesday to close out the semester.
