After wrapping up the season with a league title and an appearance at the state baseball tournament, the Humboldt Cubs received their fair share of accolades in the All-Tri-Valley League Team.
Junior pitcher Gavin Gunderman and sophomore pitcher Ty Shaughnessy earned All-TVL first team selections while senior second baseman Mason Sterling and sophomore outfielder Kolton Hanson received honorable mentions.
Shaughnessy boasted an 8-2 record on the mound with a team-leading 82 strikeouts, including a trio of double-digit strikeout performances in the postseason. He also had a .387 average in the batter’s box with 29 hits, eight doubles, a triple and a home run.
Gunderman boasted a 5-4 record with 35 strikeouts. He was equally impressive in the batter’s box with a .425 batting average on 37 hits. He drove in 18 runs and tallied six doubles in 87 at-bats.
Hanson also had 18 RBIs off 26 hits with a batting average of .347 and an on-base percentage of .437. Sterling wrapped up his senior year with a .207 batting average off 17 hits and 13 RBIs, all the more impressive considering he spent much of the winter recovering from a broken leg suffered during the fall sports season.
With only four players graduating this spring, the Cubs return to the diamond loaded and looking to pick up next season right where they left off.
