MORAN — Marmaton Valley Junior High’s boys A team was clicking on offense Monday.
Unfortunately, so was the Wildcats’ opponent.
Visiting Westphalia rolled to a 62-41 win in the boys A team contest. Marmaton Valley, meanwhile, broke out to an early lead in a 32-14 B team victory.
In girls action, Marmaton Valley’s A team got off to a slow start before finding its stride in the second quarter of a 23-20 win. The B team rolled to a 38-18 romp.
The offensive fireworks in the A team contest were fun for the crowd to watch, Wildcat coach Scott Brady said.
“I just wish we could have been on the winning end,” he said. “We played great on offense, but our defense, obviously, was almost non-existent. Throw in a few careless errors with the ball, and that was the difference in the game. They have an incredibly talented team. It’s not very often you get to see over 100 points scored in a 24-minute junior high game.”
Trevor Wilson scored 21 points to pace Marmaton Valley. Justice Pugh followed with 12. Ethan Tavarez scored six and Derek Nixon two.
The B team jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the game’s first three minutes, and steadily increased its advantage from there.
“We did a really good job of moving the ball,” Brady said, “which led to a lot of easy buckets. I really like to see balanced scoring, and the guys spread the ball around well, not allowing Westphalia to key on one guy.”
Keifer Endicott led the way with 10 points. Tavarez followed with eight. Nixon scored six. Korbin Smith had four, and Noah Foster and Will Holeman scored two each.

THE WILDCAT A girls failed to score in the first quarter, trailing 8-0, before closing the gap to 14-10 at halftime. The score was tied at 16-16 after three quarters.
Kyla Drake led the way for the Wildcats with nine points, followed by Makayla Brooks with eight. Misty Storrer scored five points and Brooklynn Norman scored one.
In the B team contest, Marmaton Valley led Westphalia 17-8 at halftime and continued its frenetic defense in the second half.
Shayla Brooks scored a team-high 16 points for Marmaton Valley. Trinitee Gutierrez added eight points. Makayla Brooks scored five, Emily Smart three and Isabell Bigelow, Megan Ensminger and Kaitlyn Knavel two each.
