PLEASANTON — A single point was all that separated Marmaton Valley Junior High’s basketball teams from a perfect evening Thursday.
The Wildcat girls won their two contests by a combined 62-21.
In boys action, the Wildcat B team won 30-4, while the A team lost a 20-19 nail-biter.
The A team thumped Pleasanton 36-13, while the B team prevailed 26-8.
“The (A team) girls are becoming more familiar with the offense and are understanding the importance of the pass,” girls head coach Kim Ensminger said. “We looked good in our transition game, as we passed the ball up the court instead of dribbling. I was pleased with their effort.”
Kyla Drake led the Wildcats with 13 points followed by Misty Storrer with 10. Shayla Brooks scored four, while Makayla Brooks, Magie Stevenson, Nalea Alexander and Trinitee Gutierrez scored two apiece. Clara Boyd scored one.
Ensminger said the B team also was learning how to effectively move the ball.
“They are showing more and more confidence all the time.”
Gutierrez scored 12 points to pace the B team, followed by Emily Smart with four, Boyd with three, Makayla and Shayla Brooks and Kaitlyn Knavel, two each, and Megan Ensminger with one.

ETHAN TAVAREZ, Brock Hall and Kiefer Endicott scored eight points each to pace the Wildcat boys B team, followed by Tony Jefferis, Korbin Smith and Derek Nixon with two points each.
Tavarez also led the A team with six points. Jake Kale scored five and Brock Hall four. Jefferis and Tristan Fraker chipped in with two points each.
