FRONTENAC — Marmaton Valley High’s softball and baseball teams went to Frontenac Tuesday instead of today as scheduled. A threat of rain today prompted the change.
For the Wildcat baseball team, nine errors doomed it in the first game against Frontenac High’s Raiders. The Raiders won 9-1 as they scored seven runs in the first inning.
Jimmy Frye took the loss on the mound for Marmaton Valley, giving up six hits and issuing one walk. He struck out two.
“Jimmy pitched another great game. We just didn’t give him the support in the field,” said Derek Scharff, MVHS baseball coach.
Daylen Houk had two singles. Hitting a single each were Frye, Derrick Carr, Cole Becker, Austin Harrison and Gage Stewart.
Down 5-2 in the second game, the Wildcats gave up eight runs in the third and lost the second game 14-2. Becker, Stewart and Ryan Smith pitched for Marmaton Valley, giving up eight hits. The Cats had five errors.
Houk had a two-run home run. Frye, Carr and Stewart each had two singles. Becker and Chris Bowman had a single apiece.
Marmaton Valley High’s softball team was shut down by the Lady Raiders. They dropped two 15-0 decisions, both games ending after four innings.
Our bats didn’t come together for us tonight,” said Brenda Mills, MVHS softball coach. “We made some mistakes but yet we made some real nice plays defensively.”
Maggie Meiwes pitched the first game and had four strikeouts. Hannah Endicott and Kayla McNutt each had a single.
