Wildcats find winning touch

Marmaton Valley picked up its first volleyball win of the season Tuesday by defeating Pleasanton in a triangular. Southern Coffey County also won.

PLEASANTON — Marmaton Valley High broke into the victory column Tuesday, securing its first win of the year with a three-set nailbiter over Pleasanton.

A pair of service runs from senior Piper Barney and sophomore Andersyn Carr were part of the Wildcats’ third-set win against the host Blu-Jays as MV pulled down a 20-25, 25-23 and 25-23 victory.

In all, the Wildcats split their two matches. In addition to the win over Pleasanton, MV dropped a 25-22 and 25-12 match to Southern Coffey County.

Carr’s serves led to 17 Wildcat points on the night, followed by Kylah Sander with 14. Barney had six service points, Khiana Haynes added five, Taylen Blevins four and Emma Michael two.

Marmaton Valley dropped a 25-20 and 25-23 loss to Pleasanton in junior varsity action. Yareli Medrano had seven service points, while Jetta Mathews served up six points for the Wildcat JV.

Marmaton Valley and Southern Coffey County will both be at a tournament in Humboldt Saturday.
