Wildcats run at Pre-State Challenge

WICHITA — The Yates Center track and field team put itself to the test this weekend in the Pre-State Challenge at Wichita.
Sophomore Hadley Splechter led the way by winning the 3200 meters with a 9:58 and then winning the 1600 meters with a 4:34. His teammates took sixth in each event with Colin Bedell running the 3200 meters and Jordan Smith running the 1600 meters.
Splechter added a pair of runner-up finishes by taking second in the 800 meters with a 2:09 and combining with Bedell, Smith and Kobe Forsyth to take second in the 4×800 relay with an 8:38.
Levi Cooper won the 400 meters with a 53.7 and took fourth in the 200 meters.
Thayne Smith was the other top-five finisher by taking fourth in the 100 meters.
Freshman Jaylee Catron was the top female finisher with a fifth-place 1:09 in the 400 meters.
