The end is in sight.

Iola High’s wrestling team concluded its first complete varsity season at home Thursday night. The IHS junior varsity has one more event Saturday. Then its time to get ready for 4A regional action next weekend at Chanute.

Three area schools — Crest, Yates Center and Southern Coffey County — have one more week of regular season play before starting Class 1A regional basketball play. Iola, Marmaton Valley, Uniontown and Humboldt have two more weeks of regular season basketball.

The Mustangs and Fillies host the Parsons High’s Viking teams tonight in Southeast Kansas League action. It is also the IHS winter homecoming.

Take a look at the photo at the right. That is Justin Baker, an IHS freshman wrestler, showing emotion. Baker had just pinned an opponent from Independence in a junior varsity match Thursday night.

Emotion. Had a coach just recently tell me teams have to play with emotion whether the offense is working or not. Emotion — under control — propels individuals and teams to do their best.

The effort, the heart, the desire and the emotion mixed together  with talent will succeed.
