HUMBOLDT — With Humboldt sophomore Aricah McCall scheduled to have surgery on the ankle she broke during  game two of Monday’s doubleheader against Leon-Bluestem, the Cubs face a transition in their outfield.
McCall moved into center field this season with the graduation of last season’s center fielder Hannah Hulett. With McCall out, sophomore left fielder Morgan Mauk will move into center and right fielder Sydney Barker likely will shift between the other two outfield spots.
“Morgan will go to center for sure and Sydney will be out there somewhere depending on where we think the ball will go,” Humboldt coach Brad Piley said. “We’ve got the rest of the week to work on the other spot. I have no idea who will play there yet.”
The lineup will also change due to McCall’s injury with the fifth-spot in the Cub batting order being vacated.
“Aricah was hitting the ball a lot better this year already,” Piley said.
Senior second baseman Tilar Wells will move up into the very important five-spot to provide protection for the most proven Cub hitters — junior Rylan Wilhite and senior Makaylah McCall.
First baseman Sydney Houk, designated player Kira McReynolds — who could be in the third outfielder mix — and third baseman Maggie Johnson could also move up one spot in the lineup.
