Yates Center baseball wins fourth straight with Pleasanton sweep

Yates Center baseball played their second-to-last regular season series on Monday at Pleasanton.

The Wildcats swept the Blu-Jays with a 16-1 win in game one and a 14-3 win in game two. They move to 11-5 overall.

Both teams were scoreless through two innings in game one before Yates Center broke the seal with two runs in the top of the third. The Wildcats added another run in the fourth and Pleasanton responded with a run of their own in the bottom of the fourth.

Yates Center then broke loose in the top of the fifth, scoring 13-runs and, after holding the Blu-Jays scoreless in the bottom of the fifth, ended the game on a run-rule.

Starter Tytan Smoot got the win, allowing just one run on three hits and a walk in five innings. He struck out nine.

Smoot and Nolan Jones led the way offensively with three hits. Jones had three RBIs and Smoot had six after hitting two home runs.

Caden Graham and Ryan Moffet each had two hits.

The Wildcats fell behind 2-0 early in game two after Pleasanton picked up two runs in the bottom of the first.

No one scored in the second and third and then Yates Center took their first lead of the game with four runs in the top of the fourth.

The Blu-Jays scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to get within a run and then the Wildcats left them behind with three runs in the top of the sixth and seven runs in the top of the seventh to close out the game.

Dalton Brittain earned the win, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and four walks in four innings. Brittain struck out four.

Devon Hathaway led the way with three hits and Graham, Jones, Brittain, Smoot, Asher Sievers and Braydon Gaulding each had two hits.

Gaulding homered in the game.

The Wildcats will wrap up the regular season on Thursday at Southeast-Cherokee.
