MOUND CITY — Yates Center High’s Wildcats and Uniontown High’s Eagles played in the Jayhawk-Linn High Junior Varsity Invitational golf tournament Thursday.
“The Sugar Valley course presented new challenges for our boys as it is very long,” said Kevin Barnes, Yates Center golf coach. “Also it had sand traps which they have never had to deal with before and the greens are larger to make putting more challenging and approach shot accuracy more critical.”
Yates Center’s Mason Hartwig shot a 78 for the nine-hole event. Tanner Sheldon carded a 79.
Uniontown’s Chance Hoener put together a round of 52. That tied him for 10th but he lost on a scorecard playoff.
Seth Bartlett also of Uniontown had a 68.
“Chance shot well but didn’t make some putts that cost him,” said Jason Tourtillott, Uniontown coach. “Seth knocked a few strokes off but has some work to get better.”
Burlington’s A. Martz won the tournament with a 43. Pleasanton won the team title with a 184.
