Free immunizations against measles, or rubella, will be given to children up to age 10 throughout the county. Provided by the State Board of Health, the program is aimed at wiping out rubella, which is a primary cause of birth defects and miscarriages. Parents are urged to have their children immunized, regardless of whether they think they have already had the disease or had the shots before. Repeat immunizations cause no discomfort and some measles shots protect only against the so-called two-day measles and not rubella.
