Representatives from the Fort Scott Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution recognized Iola Elks Lodge No. 569 Wednesday evening with a flag certificate presentation.

The Elks were the first national organization to observe Flag Day, celebrated annually on June 14.

President Harry Truman, himself an Elks member, made Flag Day a day of national observance in 1949.
