A truck load of clothes, shoes, toys and other items, coming from donations gathered at Iola’s Senior Citizens Inc. rummage store, soon will be headed to help those in need.

It took about six months to fill the trailer, noted Dimity Lowell, a worker at the store.

“We bring in items every day, and we don’t have room for everything,” she said.

So she and other volunteers sort through the collections about every two weeks to find items in good condition that cannot fit inside the store, and add them to the trailer.

A driver from Recycled Shoes in Clothing, based in Texas, was on hand to switch out trailers, with the loaded container being taken to Dallas, before the items are shipped overseas.

“It’s a good cause, and it helps us out a lot,” she said.
