The Southeast Kansas Multi-County Health Department is spreading severe storm awareness with a free movie night.

The Health Department will show the iconic 1996 storm-themed movie “Twister” at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 21, outside the SEKMHD office.

The event will include free popcorn and cotton candy, as well as drawings for emergency preparedness prizes.

Spectators are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. In case of inclement weather, the movie will moved indoors to the Riverside Park Community Building.

Before the movie begins, Allen County Emergency Management Director Jason Trego will provide a brief presentation on severe weather safety.

“Being prepared can make all the difference during severe weather,” Tiffany Davidson, Allen County Public Health Nurse, said in a news release. “We want to give families the tools and knowledge they need to protect themselves, while also creating a fun community event everyone can enjoy.”

Beatty Construction is co-sponsoring the event, along with Allen County Emergency Management.
