Christian Church
Howard Reiter gave the Communion Meditation Sunday on focusing more on what God sees as important. The more we are attracted to Christ, the less we will be distracted by the world. Pastor Chase Riebel began the first week of the Believe series which focuses on understanding God and the Trinity. He discussed the power of God and Gods works.
Mens Bible study is at 7 a.m. Tuesday. Meal and prayer time at the parsonage is at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by youth Believe study at 7 oclock. Youngsters are invited to arrive by 4:30.
Believe small groups start this week with four groups to choose from. Books are available for purchase at the church. Thursday will be the middle school hangout at the Community Church prior to the ballgames from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
Cowboy Church
Cindy Beckmon, Terri Louk, Randy Maple, Billy Beckmon, Lance Ramsey and Patty Spain were the worship leaders Sunday at High Point Cowboy Church.
Jon Petty gave the sermon, Gods Promises Are For Us, based on 2 Peter 1:2-4.
The study group reviewed the book God is Good.
Northcott Church

Crest Education Foundation
The Crest Education Foundation met Thursday. Officers Candace Powell, Chrissy Powell, Laura Schmidt and Denise King were present. Casey Cook was absent. Joining them was guest Christy McGhee.
Members discussed the Sept. 29 Kincaid Fair and Trivia Night. The Foundation is planning a float for the parade with the theme of Pioneer Ways to Modern Days.
On Oct. 6, CEF will host a Trivia Night fundraiser at the Kincaid School Gymnasium. Doors will open at 6 p.m. with trivia starting at 6:30. They are seeking teams of six people, $20 per person or $120 per team. All players must be 21 or older. Spots are limited, so call Chrissy at 620-363-0080 to reserve your table soon. All teams should be registered by Oct. 1.
Trill Miller won the CEF Lancer Tailgate Basket.
The Foundation printed and sent home pictures to all students and staff who participated in the photo booth.
The Colony Day Lancer Lemonade Stand, worked by Crest students, was a big hit, with the stand selling all of the lemonade during parade time. Kendall McGhee won a lemonade basket. The CEF float, titled Dont Stop Believin In Our Future, won first place in the mini-float division. Members discussed the continuation of the Read 2 Lead Campaign, with hopes of donating more books to the Crest Library.
The Foundation received a donation of 42 new hardback books from Schoolwide, Inc. that were presented to the school and on display during Open House. The Foundation hopes to receive a book list from Hammond and will work toward purchasing more books.
The next meeting will be at 6 p.m. Oct. 4 in the City Hall Community Room. Any and all Crest patrons are welcomed to attend.
City Council
Steven Leonard asked City Council members at their July 25 meeting with a petition to erect Children at Play signs and to reduce the speed limit in residential areas to 20 mph.
Council informed him they did not have the funds to put up the signs or to hire a full time police department to enforce reduced speeds.
There are speed limit signs around town now that people are ignoring, they noted.
Ordinances 440 and 441 authorizing the use of the 2018 Standard Traffic Ordinance and 2018 Uniform Public Offense Code for Kansas Cities were approved.
Around Town
Dustin and Rochelle Smart have a baby girl, Lily Elizabeth, born Sept. 8, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanutel. Lily joins a sister, Jayden. Darren and Cindy McGhee, Westphalia, are grandparents, Thelma Culler, Colony, is her great-grandmother.
Charlene Tinsley, 88, died at her home Aug. 31. She and her late husband lived here all their married life. She was born here but as a child moved to Boulder, Colo., where she graduated from high school and attended Boulder University for awhile. Funeral services and burial were Sept. 5. Charlene will be missed.
