Advocates for a countywide recycling program will address Iola City Council members Monday to share their vision of how a joint city-county venture can succeed in Allen County.
The group has tried in recent years to get a system in place, but has yet to find traction with either the city or county governing bodies.
Monday’s discussion will include information from Todd Bemis of Coffey County, who will be on hand to explain how that system works.
Also Monday, representatives of the Kansas Office of Veterans Services, which helps those who served with an assortment of tasks, will explain their program.
Council members also will discuss a request from the Fellowship of Christian Athletes to host a baseball clinic at Iola’s Riverside Park June 11.
The Council also will continue discussions with the Iola Community Involvement Task Force / PRIDE Committee about a proposed splash park in Iola.
The group appealed to the Council at its April 28 meeting for assistance in meeting the $200,000-plus price tag to turn the splash park into reality.
Marie Barclay, CITF/PRIDE president, noted the Register’s reporting from the earlier meeting was inaccurate, in that the group was not asking the city to take over the project, but rather was asking for financial assistance
The group has raised more than $50,000 through private fundraising efforts.
Monday’s 6 p.m. meeting will be at the New Community Building at Riverside Park and is open to the public.
