Sean Hurst of Iola and a student at Yates Center High School was elected as Powell County Commissioner at the Aug. 1-7 Boys State summer program.
Boys State is sponsored by the American Legion with the goal of instilling civic responsibility and a “learning by doing” model that uses simulated elections, political parties and government at the state, county and local levels.
The camp is held on the campus of Kansas State University.
