Burglary leads to arrest

Allen County sheriff’s deputies, investigating a burglary reported at West Side Bait Shop east of Iola Sept. 14, found a person of interest in the area. Following a brief investigation, deputies arrested Jacob A. Bancroft, 40, Chanute, for suspicion of burglary and criminal possession of a firearm.

Driver accused of causing wreck

Allen County sheriff’s deputies, working in league with the Humboldt Police and Neosho County sheriff’s departments, responded to a report of a reckless driver Sept. 12. The alleged offending vehicle was stopped about seven miles south of Chanute on U.S. 169. Jeremiah K. Edwards, 42, Sapulpa, Okla., was arrested for suspicion of driving without a license, reckless driving, possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a firearm.

Edwards also was found to have warrants out of Nowata County in Oklahoma.

Officer crashes

A Humboldt police officer, whose name was not released, crashed a patrol vehicle Saturday while pursuing a reported reckless driver on Georgia Road west of Humboldt.

The vehicle left the roadway, struck a sign and crashed into a tree line and barbed wire fence.

The officer was not hurt, Allen County sheriff’s deputies reported.

Vehicle passenger found nude, arrested

Allen County deputies were called to a residence northwest of Elsmore Sept. 7 to investigate a suspicious vehicle in the yard.

There, they found a naked man inside the vehicle.

After ordering him to put on some clothing, the deputies arrested James W. Shaw Jr., 49, Iola, for suspicion of driving with a revoked license, illegal registration, possessing stolen property (a license plate) and no liability insurance.

Gunshots reported

Dakota Morrison told deputies Sept. 23 somebody had been shining a light into a bedroom window at her resilience north of Iola. Morrison also reported hearing gunshots east of her residence. Nobody was found after a brief search, although deputies found spent shell casings on a nearby low-water bridge.

Imprisoned cattle perish

Kelly Klubeck told deputies Sept. 22 somebody locked some of his cattle in a barn without food and water while Klubeck was out of the area. A bull, two cows and two calves died, Klubeck said.

Vehicle burns

Samuel Reed told deputies Sept. 18 he was driving his 2003 Ford Expedition on 4600 Street, about two miles northeast of Elsmore, when he saw flames coming from under his hood and then his floorboard. Reed was able to escape the vehicle without injury.

Volunteers with the Moran Marmaton-Osage Fire Department extinguished the blaze. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
