GARNETT — Work to rebuild a roundabout at the intersection of U.S. 169 and U.S. 59 south of Garnett continues on schedule, the Kansas Department of Transportation announced this week.
Crews are widening the lanes and realigning the entrances and exits to teh roundabout, to make it easier to navigate for large trucks.
Motorists heading to Garnett from Iola are diverted to a bypass lane east of the roundabout, and follow a signed detour along the highway’s business route. The bypass lane will remain, even after the roundabout is completed, project manager Ian Stringham said.
Clarkson Construction Company of Kansas City, Mo., is in charge of the $5.9 million project.
Weather permitting, the project is slated for completion in mid-2026.
