YATES CENTER — Chari Bauman, a third-grade teacher at Yates Center Elementary School, has been named a recipient of the 2019 Kansas Horizon Award.
The award was announced earlier this month by the Kansas State Department of Education.
The Horizon Award identifies first-year teachers “who perform in a way that distinguishes them as outstanding,” according to a KSDE press release. The award is then presented to teachers in their second year. Bauman is in her second year at Yates Center.
Four elementary and secondary classroom teachers are selected annually from each of the state’s four congressional districts. Bauman’s region covers 25 counties across eastern Kansas.
Bauman is a Yates Center High School and Wichita State University graduate.
