Iola High School’s annual Senior Awards Night, already a poignant night for families and students alike, was even more emotional than usual Wednesday.
Family members of the late Alle Peres, who would have graduated with her classmates this month, were on hand to present the inaugural Alexandrea Marie Peres Memorial Scholarship.
Peres, a talented artist, died in May 2016.
The scholarship went to her former classmate and fellow art student Brooklyn Storrer, who plans to attend the University of Kansas.
