Classy Attic had those hard-to -buy-for preteens and teenagers in mind when it stocked “texting gloves” for the holiday season. The sparkly gloves lack fingertips.
“We thought the gloves were a fun novelty. They come in fun colors with plenty of sparkle to please any young lady,” said store owner Sherry Hart.
Hart became sole owner of Classy Attic in January when she bought out co-owner Mary Smith. The store began as Old Country in 1994 and transitioned to Classy Attic in 1995 when the two purchased the shop from Beverly Hawk. The store remained in the old Shannon building on the north side of the Iola square until 2004 when it moved to 15 E. Madison Ave. — the south side of the square. The store is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays until Christmas. The store has six part-time employees.
“Business has picked up since the middle of November. We know the week before Christmas we will have a lot of men in looking for that special gift for their wife. We’ve also had a lot of people stop in who were traveling through Iola and saw our window displays and decided to stop and check out our merchandise,” Hart said.
Popular gifts this holiday season have been the Willow Tree Angels and Yankee Candle. New this season are accessories for those who enjoy wine. There are a variety of wine stoppers, glasses and cozies that fit over the wine glasses.
On top of the fingerless texting gloves, for the hard to buy for person Classy Attic offers white chocolate popcorn.
Picture frames and signs — such as Love and Family — have been big sellers this season.
Classy Attic has both a bridal and baby registry.
“We have many home decorations that will help a new bride furnish her new home and among the items we have for a new baby are toys, blankets, photo frames and baby books,” Hart said.
There is no charge for gift wrapping but the staff asks for a donation to be divided between Allen County Animal Rescue Facility and Hope Unlimited.
In the window is a large display with photos of cats and dogs at ACARF that are looking for their new best friend, Hart said.
“We try and keep our merchandise reasonably priced,” Hart said.
On special are WoodWick Reed Diffusers, which are 20 percent off the regular price, Soap Dispensers which are also 20 percent off, and Fragrance Oil Lamps are 50 percent off.
Additional discounts and bargains for the holiday season may be found on Classy Attic’s Facebook page.
