Bowlus fun starts Monday

A variety of activities are being offered in July at the Bowlus Fine Arts Center for budding young artists and musicians.
Stephen Gilpin, noted children’s book illustrator, and Becky Gill, writing instructor, are offering a Comics Crash Course for youths in fifth through eighth grades from 9 a.m. to noon beginning Monday and concluding on July 9.
The class has room for four more students interested in creating their own comic book.
A Beginning Band Workshop, under the direction of Larry Lillard, is scheduled from 8 to 9:30 a.m. Monday through July 16 in the band room. The class will allow fifth- and sixth-grade students to get a jumpstart on playing an instrument and an opportunity to test their skills and experience playing different types of instruments prior to the beginning of the school year.
The Summer Youth Art Program will offer two sessions. First- through third-grade students will meet from 8 to 10:30 a.m. beginning July 12 for one week. The second session begins on July 19 for a week and is geared to fourth through eighth graders.
Students will show off their work at an art exhibit in the Mary L. Martin Art Gallery beginning July 26 for one week during regular Bowlus summer hours which are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The Summer Drumming Circle will begin July 12 and run from 10 a.m. to noon for a week. Students will participate in a performance at 10 a.m. on July 17 in Creitz Recital Hall. The public is invited to attend.
Anyone interested in enrolling their child in any of the above classes may call the Bowlus office at 365-4765 between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m.
